Deals of the Week: Anniversary Meals, Holiday Flowers and More

Restaurants with sweetheart deals, plus gift discounts and cash for opening a retirement account

By Leah Ingram

Have you ever forgotten your wedding anniversary then panicked to get a gift? Well, I've got you covered so that won’t happen again. I found four national restaurant chains offering free food (or discounts) when you’re celebrating an anniversary.

Also: deals for sending flowers or tasty baked treats as holiday gifts and a way to get money when you roll over a retirement account.

Wedding Anniversary Restaurant Deals

Since I just celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary, I was inspired to tell you about ways to score free or discounted food at four major restaurant chains when your anniversary rolls around. Unless noted otherwise, you must first register for the restaurant's email club or sign up at the chain’s website.

Maggiano's Little Italy Get a coupon for $10 off a meal costing $30 or more if you eat there within 30 days of your anniversary.

The Melting Pot Sign up for the “Fondue Club” at this chain's website and you’ll get a voucher (valid for three months) for free chocolate-covered strawberries. Be sure to mention the voucher when you call to make a reservation, so the restaurant can make the treat fresh before your arrival.

Romano's Macaroni Grill Enroll to receive the chain’s free newsletter, "The Dish," and within a week of your anniversary you'll get an emailed coupon for your choice of a free dessert or free tapas for two. You'll have 14 days to use the tapas coupon or 30 days to use the dessert coupon.

Ted's Montana Grill Become a member of Ted's (as in Ted Turner) email club through the restaurant's website and a few days before your anniversary, you'll get a coupon for a free appetizer to redeem within 30 days.

Discounts for Ordering Holiday Gifts

Maybe you’re thinking of sending a bouquet of flowers or a box of brownies as a holiday gift. If so, I can help you save money when you place the order.

For flowers, take advantage of “Teleflora Tuesday,” rotating weekly discounts from Teleflora.com through Dec. 18. (One Teleflora Tuesday deal recently offered 30 percent off rose bouquets, a savings of roughly $30). When you place the order, you can select any date for the flowers to arrive, up to Dec. 24.

Teleflora won’t reveal its upcoming deals, so I can’t tell you exactly what they’ll offer next. But if you sign up on the florist’s website, Teleflora Tuesday promotions will start popping up in your inbox.

I’ve ordered many delicious food gifts over the years from Dancing Deer Baking Company — try the sugar cane lime cookies! — and the site has a new special each week. You can choose any date for the gift to arrive, even in 2013.

The current deal, good through Sunday, lets you save 25 percent on anything on Dancing Deer’s site. Just enter the code EARLY25 at checkout. Next week's deal, which runs Nov. 19-21, lops 33 percent off the price of three specific items:

  • Santa's Sleigh Ride Classic Gift Collection, an assortment of cookies and brownies (regularly $49.99; sale price $33.49)
  • The Signature Baker's Best Holiday Gift Tower, a larger assortment of cookies and brownies (regularly $67.99; sale price $45.55)
  • The Classic Holiday Cake and Cookie Gift Tower (regularly $49.99; sale price $33.49)

A Free $160 (or More!) for a Retirement Account Rollover

These days, who isn’t worried about having enough money for retirement? You can make your savings a little bit larger by taking advantage of ShareBuilder.com’s Black Friday offer.

Capital One’s online investing site will give you between $160 and $360 when you roll over an old 401(k) into either a Sharebuilder IRA or Roth IRA. The bonus credit is $160 if you roll over at least $10,000; $260 for at least $25,000 and $360 for at least $50,000.

To get the bonus, you must sign up on the site between 12:01 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23 and 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25 and enter the promo code BF12RET360A.
