Tuition at Gettysburg College, then and now

It is no secret that college tuition rates have increased significantly in recent years, but sometimes the most eye-opening evidence of this rapid increase in higher education costs is a direct comparison.

Last week, a user of the social media site Reddit found his grandfather's Gettysburg College tuition bill from 1949 and was shocked at the cost of enrollment. $407.50 covered tuition, board and athletic fee for a semester. Today, yearly tuition alone is more than $47,000.
