Documentary Explores the LGBTQ Movement's History in the Heartland

The 'Out North' film spotlights activism beginning in the 1970s

Twin Cities PBS' documentary, Out North: MNLGBTQ History , explores the powerful stories of LGBTQ people and their struggles in Minnesota, paying special attention to the gay liberation movement of the 1970s (the trailer to the film is above, but the entire film is available to watch  online). Exploring some of the histories and remembering the pioneers of politics, empowerment and pride in these communities, the two-hour film reminds audiences of the hidden history of LGBTQ friends, neighbors and family members in the state — many of whom were known on the national stage as well.
