Raya Dukhan and Paul Aquino create different kinds of art, but for very similar reasons.

Abstract painter Dukhan, who lives in Brooklyn, says, "[Art] makes me happy. Hours disappear, but it's the hours when I'm the happiest."

Now working in the tech field, Dukhan's goal is to become a full-time artist.

New York City artist Aquino does commissioned portraits. After jobs in the hotel industry, and as a make-up artist, Aquino was in his 30s when he decided that pursuing art was what he had to do "for the rest of my life." He says, "What it means to be an artist is liking what you do. It's fun all the time, but it's hard."

In this piece by filmmaker Josef Lorenzo, Dukhan and Aquino talk about their art at the Superfine Art Fair in New York City, an exhibition which prides itself on bringing art to people who would normally feel unwelcome in the art world.
