Answers to Your Questions About Grandparenting

Our Facebook Live covered topics from building relationships to tantrums

By Julie Pfitzinger

Several weeks ago, we asked Next Avenue readers to send us their questions about grandparenting. Whether they were soon-to-be grandparents or wondering about the best way to build a good relationship — either nearby or long-distance— with a grandchild, we were interested in finding out what was on their minds. We had a great response, so thanks to all of you who took the time to participate.

For the Facebook Live event we held Thursday, Senior Features Editor Julie Pfitzinger was joined by Marti Erickson, who had a long career at the University of Minnesota, studying risk and resilience in children, teaching mental health professionals who work with children and families and writing and speaking for diverse audiences throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Erickson says her greatest joy is sharing adventures with her five grandchildren, ages 9 to 14. Read more about her suggestions for spending quality time with grandchildren here.

Since 2006, Erickson and her daughter Erin have co-hosted a weekly parenting show, Mom Enough ®, available to listen or download. At Mom Enough, you will find an extensive collection of past podcasts, addressing many of the issues we talked about during the Facebook event, as well as resources for a wide variety of topics.

If you missed the Facebook Live event, watch it below. And if you have other questions about grandparenting, let us know. We are always looking for ideas on how to tell stories about these important family relationships.
